The Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow members of the Pennsylvania State Police following the tragic line-of-duty death of Trooper Michael Pahira.

Trooper Pahira lost his life on the morning of July 1 while conducting a commercial vehicle safety inspection along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County. A nearly 20-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police, he dedicated his career to protecting the motoring public and helping ensure the safety of Pennsylvania's highways.

Our hearts are with Trooper Pahira's loved ones during this unimaginable time. We also stand with the entire Pennsylvania State Police family as they mourn the loss of a respected colleague, friend, and public servant.

Those who work along our roadways, state troopers, emergency responders, highway workers, tow operators, and professional truck drivers, face dangers every day that most motorists never see. Today's heartbreaking loss is a powerful reminder of the importance of remaining alert, slowing down, eliminating distractions, and moving over whenever possible for emergency vehicles and anyone working on the roadside.
